Turner Celebrates Topping Out for Lester Community Center in Binghampton

The Binghampton community marked a milestone this summer as Turner celebrated topping out for the new Lester Community Center. This occasion signified the completion of the structural framework for a project that promises to be a transformative addition to one of Memphis’ most vibrant neighborhoods.

Earlier this year, Turner’s Memphis team proudly broke ground on this project, laying the foundation for what is to become an innovative community hub. The Lester Community Center is a symbol of growth, progress, unity, and the city’s commitment to enhancing the well-being of its residents.

The original Lester Community Center, a cornerstone of the neighborhood since its opening in 1980, has long served as a gathering place for Binghampton’s residents. However, with the evolving needs of the neighborhood, it was time for an upgrade. The new $18 million facility will replace the old center on Tillman Street and is designed to cater to a wide range of interests and age groups, offering modern amenities that will foster a sense of fellowship and provide opportunities for engagement and enrichment. As the Turner team placed the final beam on the structure, city leaders, local residents, builders, and project managers all came together to observe this significant step forward. 

The building will feature an array of resources tailored to meet the diverse needs of Binghampton. Among the highlights are a fully equipped gymnasium, an indoor walking track, a technology lab, a fitness room, and several multi-purpose spaces. Thoughtfully designed, these areas offer options for recreation, education, and events, ensuring that the center serves as a bright and inclusive space for all.

The new Lester Community Center represents an investment in the future of Binghampton and Memphis as a whole. It is part of a broader initiative that has seen roughly $200 million invested in the city, with more than $100 million dedicated to enhancing parks and community centers. These investments are about creating environments where people can thrive.
