Bluebird bio has transitioned from multiple buildings in Kendall Square into a newly constructed 10-story building at 60 Binney Street. Turner completed the 907,000 sq. ft. core/shell building (50 + 60 Binney Street) in 2016. The project scope includes newly constructed 120,000 sq. ft lab space, equipment mechanical space, and a facilities office area. This new lab includes an 8,000 sq. ft vivarium space on the 2nd floor that supports laboratory mice research.
The new mechanical space houses equipment for a PH Neutralization system, RO/DI Generation skid, RO/DI Reject Reclamation skid, Compressed Air skid, and a Vacuum Air skid. The mechanical space also provided services to the labs that include O2 and N2. It also included the installation of a 1,500L CO2 microbulk tank with service and a 3,000 gallon LN2 microbulk with a full distribution service to the labs. Turner has since complete work for this client at two other locations in Kendall Square.
