NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, Alexandra Cohen Hospital for Women and Newborns

Turner provided construction management services to Alexandra Cohen Hospital for Women and Newborns, which now accommodates 7,300 births a year. Located on floors 14 to 18 of the David H. Koch Center, the hospital offers comprehensive antepartum and postpartum services, including specialized prenatal care, and a Level IV NICU, the first in New York. Facilities include 75 private rooms, a 20-bed triage suite, 16 labor and delivery, and five operating rooms.

Occupying the top five floors, the project team applied Lean Construction principles to manage the flow of work to avoid disturbing the floors below. In doing so, all work was carefully planned and coordinated with trade partners and New York-Presbyterian’s (NYPH) building management. As challenges arose, the team collectively developed strategies during pre-task plans to overcome the hurdles while safeguarding schedule, budget, and quality.
