Philadelphia International Airport’s Terminal A West is an 800,000 sq. ft., three-level international terminal with 12 gates, including sterile corridors and complete FIS inspection services. The project included terminal/ticketing, federal inspection services, a baggage claim/arrivals hall, a central utility plant, baggage handling equipment, apron paving, and auger cast pile foundations.
The building is structural steel framing for the terminal and FIS spanning over the departures roadway connecting to the arrivals hall and new garage addition. The exterior wall is a combination of aluminum and metal panel curtain-wall system. The ramp control tower is a 190-foot structural steel framing and metal panel exterior wall system on top of caissons. The core level is a glazed continuous system and the tower includes an egress stairway and elevator. The ramp control tower is used by US Airways to control non-FAA controlled AOA areas for airline operations for the six-unit concourse.
In addition, modifications and renovations to the ticket lobby pier and baggage handling systems were constructed due to federally-mandated security changes required by the events of September 11, 2001.
