Building the Infrastructure to Support the Future of Pitt

Through a joint venture between Turner and Mosites, this project includes the construction of a 15,000-ton chilled water plant along with distribution throughout the University of Pittsburgh’s campus. The chiller plant will be housed within a new steel and concrete structure with masonry and curtainwall façade. The chiller plant consists of space for four chillers with six cooling tower cells and the chilled water system is designed for variable primary pumping. The plant also includes two 3MW diesel generators for stand-by generation. The distribution includes underground chilled water supply and return piping and HDPE greywater piping for collection of roof drains from the campus. The collected greywater will be stored in one of two underground cisterns on the chiller plant site and used to supplement condenser water makeup.
