National Nonprofit Day: Turner's Commitment to Giving Back

National Nonprofit Day: Turner's Commitment to Giving Back

August 17 marks National Nonprofit Day, a time to honor and recognize the invaluable contributions of nonprofits to society. For Turner Construction Company, this day serves as a reminder to give back to those around us through participating in engaging events, volunteering our time and skills, and offering financial assistance.

This year, we've continued our tradition of aiding organizations and initiatives that align with our values and goals. Our dedication to these causes exemplifies our role as a leader in the community, demonstrates our commitment to uplifting those around us, and ensures that our efforts have a lasting impact.

This year, Turner's Memphis office has partnered with several local organizations to make a tangible difference. Here's a snapshot of those we have supported in 2024:

Epicenter Memphis (April): Partnered for the Turner School of Construction Management (TSCM) Graduation, where we celebrated the graduation of more than 15 local subcontractors, empowering them with skills and opportunities.

Habitat For Humanity (May): During Turner Founders' Month, we participated in a Community Build Day, where our employees volunteered their time to construct homes for those in need.

Greater Memphis Chamber (July): Provided an experiential learning opportunity through the externship program, giving participants a firsthand look at the construction industry.

United Way of The Mid-South (August): Organized a school supplies drive, ensuring local students were well-equipped for the school year.
Memphis Parks (August): Conducted a CPR and First Aid Safety stand-down meeting at Lester Community Center, promoting safety awareness and preparedness.

Southwest Tennessee Community College: Supported a workforce development tour in collaboration with Le Bonheur, highlighting career opportunities in the healthcare and construction sectors.

City of Memphis Office of Youth Services: Provided ongoing workforce development and partner site shadowing opportunities, nurturing the next generation of professionals.

Memphis Shelby County Schools (MSCS): Offered worksite tours at Alliance Health Services, giving MSCS students enrolled in CCTE classes insight into the construction industry's workings.

In the past, Turner has endorsed a variety of organizations and causes. Our prior contributions include:

Hospitality Hub: Provided landscaping and meals for the unhoused during Turner Founders' Month.

University of Memphis Herff College of Engineering: Pledged a $70,000 scholarship, demonstrating our commitment to education and the future of engineering.

Greater Memphis Chamber: As a part of our externship program, we donated $3,500 to host a Memphis Shelby County Schools teacher, fostering knowledge sharing and curriculum development.

Winchester Elementary School: Presented $500 in school supplies, ensuring students had the necessary academic resources.

The United Way of the Mid-South: Granted $250 for a Halloween event in Binghampton.

Le Bonheur Children's Hospital: Participated in the Pumpkin Run with a $100 candy donation and food service.

Binghampton Development Corporation: Presented $745 to their toy drive.

Mid-South Food Bank: Made significant donations to support local food security.

The Turner Construction Company Foundation Golf Outing: Offered more than $90,000 to various Memphis charities at our annual golf tournament.

Le Bonheur Children's Hospital: Installed a specialty Christmas tree, designed by the Turner team, at the Memphis Museum of Science and History's Enchanted Forest.

Memphis Light Gas and Water Supplier Expo: Engaged with minority suppliers to encourage certification as Turner subcontractors.

Our commitment to service is further exemplified by the recent appointment of Andy Davis, the vice president and general manager of Turner's Memphis office, as the new board chair of the American Heart Association (AHA) Mid-South. This position highlights our dedication to actively shaping our community's future. Through this role, Davis is helping to steer initiatives that align with AHA's mission, including promoting cardiovascular health and facilitating groundbreaking research.

As we celebrate National Nonprofit Day, we take pride in our ongoing efforts to give back to others. At Turner, we believe in the power of collaboration and are eager to support initiatives that foster growth, education, and well-being. We look forward to continuing our work in 2024 and beyond, making a difference in the lives of those we serve.
