Topping Out at 550 Washington Street

To date, the project has created more than 500 construction jobs that have worked more than 775,000 hours.

“Today is a celebration of the efforts of so many who had a vision for St. John’s Terminal,” said Turner Vice President and General Manager, Bert Rahm. “We want to thank Oxford for their foresight and courage in developing this site and Google for their commitment to expand their presence in the New York market, and both for allowing Turner to be their partner.” Rahm continued, “I want to recognize our staff and the workforce. Not enough can be said about how hard and diligent everyone worked to meet their commitments while facing the challenges of COVID-19. Everyone looks out for each other.”

The former freight terminal is being reimagined into a 12-story, 1.3 million-square-foot cutting-edge commercial office space, part of Google’s planned Hudson Square campus. Once the exterior is complete, Turner in a joint venture with Structure Tone will complete the interiors for Google as they expand in New York City. 

“When complete, many people will look to 550 Washington as an example of what is possible when a team communicates and collaborates to such a high level that this team did,” said Rahm.
