Turner and New York City FC Break Ground on $780 Million Etihad Park

The start of construction for New York City’s first-ever professional soccer-specific stadium and the future home of New York City FC marks a transformative moment for the City and the sport.

Turner Construction Company and New York City FC have officially broken ground on Etihad Park, a $780 million, state-of-the-art stadium in Willets Point, Queens. Fully financed by New York City FC, Etihad Park is poised to become a game-changer for soccer fans and the local community as the first-ever professional soccer-specific stadium in New York City.

The 610,000-square-foot, 25,000-seat facility will set a new standard as Major League Soccer's first fully electric stadium in the United States, powered by innovative sustainability features including rooftop photovoltaic panels and a water reuse system for pitch irrigation. Designed with fans and community engagement in mind, Etihad Park will house over 40 private suites, three exclusive clubs, and the City Square, a vibrant plaza for community gatherings and events. The project also integrates retail, dining, and office spaces, creating a dynamic hub in Queens.

“New York City FC committed ten years ago to build New York City's first-ever, soccer-specific stadium in the five boroughs, and today's groundbreaking of Etihad Park in Willets Point, Queens, brings us one step closer to delivering that promise to our fans and our city,” said New York City FC Vice Chairman Marty Edelman.

Charles Whitney, Vice President and General Manager at Turner Construction Company, expressed pride in the partnership: “We are thrilled to begin work on this transformative project. Etihad Park will stand as a landmark for soccer enthusiasts and a cornerstone for the Willets Point community. We deeply appreciate the collaboration with New York City FC, HOK, and our trade partners, and we’re committed to building a facility that reflects the spirit and energy of New York.”

Set to open in time for the 2027 MLS season, Etihad Park will position New York City as a leading soccer destination in the United States, bolstering local pride and advancing sustainable design in sports infrastructure.
