Turner Construction Company is pleased to announce that the New Natural Resources Headquarters project in Sacramento topped out with its last piece of structured steel at 344 feet.
The 22-story office tower will be the new headquarters for the State of California Natural Resources Agency.
The topping out celebration included more than 350 people from Design-Build partners, AC Martin; members from Turner Engineering Group; and design consultants, trade partners and owners group.
The project, which will be Sacramento’s tallest building since 2009, broke ground one year ago, and has been making an impression in the city ever since. Turner has been ensuring minimal impacts to the busy downtown community, including public transit routes and to residential and commercial neighbors. The team has also been a proactive community partner, hosting quarterly community update meetings, volunteering, and donating to local non-profit organizations.
"Dan Wheeler shook my hand and said, ‘Trust me, we can do this,’ ” said Project Director for the State of California Department of General Services, Richard Standiford. “One year ago, almost to the day, we had our Groundbreaking Ceremony. And there was trust that we would be here, right now, a year later getting ready for our topping out ceremony."
Turner Vice President and Construction Executive, Grant Griffanti said, “In November 2017 we submitted our proposal schedule indicating an April 8, 2019 hook date. We started steel on April 6 and topped out a month ahead of that schedule.” Grant continued, “The entire team has done an incredible job of meeting commitments— I’ve never worked with a more reliable team. We have a long way to go and I am confident our team members will continue to rise to the occasion.”
The 838,000 gross square foot tower will feature 10,000 square feet of retail, a health center, an auditorium, a multi-vendor food court, and a pedestrian plaza. The project also includes exterior improvements to the nearby historic Heilbron House, and a 120- student and childcare facility. Construction is scheduled to be complete by the summer of 2021.
