The Clark Art Institute

Revitalizing and Amplifying the Museum's Unique Character

The expansion consisted of an underground utility plant, a visitor center, and additional renovation work throughout the institute. The project is LEED Gold Certified and was designed by the world renowned Tadao Ando Architects and Associates, Osaka, Japan, and Gensler. The Clark Art Institute received the 2014 Apollo Award for Museum Opening of the Year. The Clark Center features high-end exhibit space, as well as multi-use exhibition gallery space, with projection screens and multimedia abilities. All areas have integrated dimming systems programmed around curatorial needs. With modern solar shades and black-out shades, the spaces can take on more elaborate functions. Additionally, the museum includes a 1.5 acre reflection pool which circulates 225,000 gallons of harvested water from on-site geothermal wells and recycled water runoff.
