Turner provided preconstruction and construction management services for the renovation of lobby and Kilstrom Theatre (formerly Space Theatre) in the Denver Center for the Performing Arts (DCPA). The project completed rebuilt the 532-seat, two-level, in-the-round theatre, associated backstage support areas, and public restrooms. The renovation was designed to address code compliance, patron accessibility and equality of experience, public safety, health and convenience, and operational efficiency.
The Helen G Bonfils Theatre Complex, designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Kevin Roche, was built by the DCPA and granted to the City of Denver in 1979. At the time it was built, Time magazine called it “the crown jewel of the Rockies”, and the Tony Award-winning theatre produced within its walls since that time has only added to its significance. Over 150 new plays have originated in the DCPA’s new play program.
