A New Cross-Discipline Collaboration Facility

Turner provided preconstruction and construction management services for Lafayette’s new Rockwell Integrated Sciences Center. Demolition of existing buildings and significant site utility relocations were necessary to accommodate the new building, which faces Anderson Courtyard and contains a below-grade connection to AEC. The building consists of five floors comprised of primarily classrooms and laboratory space. The facility also features a four-story atrium and an open-air courtyard. The building structure consists of a composite structural steel frame on spread footings. Clad in a combination of architectural precast concrete, masonry and glass, the building includes two vegetated roof areas. The mechanical and electrical systems are served by integrated chilled and hot water equipment and an emergency generator. The new science center serves as a model of environmental responsibility and provide students with a living laboratory for sustainability. The facility achieved LEED Platinum certification.
