Lean Approach in Healthcare Construction

Turner completed a health care center for Mount Sinai Health Systems, located on the 2nd floor of 55 Hudson Yards. Built for the area's residents, the center includes exam and optometry rooms, family lounges, and medical imaging and physical therapy suites. To maintain the project's fast-paced schedule and overcome field constraints, Turner adopted a lean construction approach that closely coordinated activities with the building's management. For example, the team devised a just-in-time delivery strategy that aligned with the aggressive schedule to overcome the site's limited material storage. As materials arrived the team worked double shifts installing the medical equipment to ensure the project remained on schedule. As a result, the imaging suite was completed ahead of schedule that ultimately led to the overall project's timely completion.
