NYU Langone Health, The Helen L. & Martin S. Kimmel Pavilion

Setting New Standards in Healthcare Construction

The Kimmel Pavilion represents the culmination of more than a decade of planning and reflects the team’s commitment to construction excellence. The 21-story facility spans 830,000 sq. ft. and includes the Hassenfeld Children’s Hospital, a 160,000 sq. ft. facility. The team successfully overcame two challenges: recovering from Superstorm Sandy and constructing directly above active Amtrak tunnels and a sewer outflow.

Kimmel also achieved several notable milestones for New York City. It was the first hospital to offer private rooms for all patients and implement a flood resiliency program. Additionally, Kimmel pioneered the use of a modular design approach, incorporating prefabricated bathroom pods throughout the facility. This decision enabled the implementation of "same-handed" room design, a proven method for reducing medical errors.
