Turner Cincinnati collaborated with the Carson School in Price Hill in 2021 to design and build an outdoor community pantry that houses non-perishable food items, toiletries, and books. The students at this school identified the lack of accessible food sources in their neighborhood as an issue they wanted to tackle.
The students worked alongside Turner staff to design the pantry based on needs identified in their local community. Each student had a role on this project – from Foremen to Environmental Services Engineers to Community Coordinators; they had been learning about construction and various tools in their class several months leading up to build day, and they built a cardboard model of what they wanted the pantry to look like.
“I appreciate Turner Construction so much for partnering with us on this,” Stacey Jones, teacher at the Carson School.
Turner hosted two virtual sessions with the students to understand their design specifications and review the drawings. Once the students unanimously approved the final pantry design, Tuner staff and students hosted a build day on May 7, 2021, dedicated the pantry in a ribbon cutting ceremony on May 14, 2021 and donated a collection of items to fill the pantry.
“On behalf of Turner and all of the Turner projects that are in the Cincinnati region, we wanted to do our part in filling up the pantry,” Aaron Terry, Assistant Superintendent of Turner Cincinnati.
