Turner Construction Company Celebrates Topping Out of Boeing PAC-3 Missile Seeker Facility Expansion

The building is part of an expansion and renovation project at the Boeing Huntsville Jetplex. Located at 499 Boeing Blvd., the $5.9 million, 22,692-square-foot expansion will include a basement utility tunnel, a main floor factory space and a mechanical penthouse. The expansion will provide additional capability to upgrade and sustain the current PAC-3 program for the U.S. Army.

“The PAC-3 expansion project signifies Boeing’s continued investment in the Huntsville community,” said Chris Raymond, vice president of Boeing’s Strategic Defense & Intelligence Systems unit. “It means a lot to us that the money we are investing here is directly returned to the local economy—all while expanding the capabilities of our facilities to even better serve the U.S. Army.”

The expansion to the PAC-3 facility will blend seamlessly into Boeing’s existing building—comprised of a concrete foundation, structural steel frame and pre-cast concrete exterior—and will enlarge the building’s footprint by 13,000 square feet. The existing structure will remain open and fully functional throughout construction. Turner is self-performing the concrete foundation, steel frame and pre-cast concrete exterior portions of the work.

Hargrove Engineers is serving as the architect and engineer on the project, which is slated for completion in May of 2017.
