Harmonizing Tradition with Modernity

Turner provided project and construction management services to Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) for the redevelopment of their headquarters campus. As the first phase of the project, the Balai Islam was completed in 2019, making it the first Turner’s mosque project in Southeast Asia.

The story structure of Balai Islam Complex has three prayer halls that can each hold up to 2,850 people at once. In addition, there are seminar rooms, housing accommodations, a café, and plenty of parking spaces.

The complex is built according to the three Islamic concepts of moderation, inclusivity, and respect, all with a modern twist. This is to ensure that while traditional mosque elements are retained, the design also caters to the changing times and needs of the people. The neutral color scheme of the building materials draws a focus on the form and function of the facilities. Passing pedestrians can identify the mosque by its 50-meter tall minaret, and the campus's gently terraced landscape offers a calm respite from the bustling city around the campus.
