The 1.5-mile, tri-oval Kansas Speedway in the Village West area in Kansas City, Kansas hosts two annual NASCAR race events each year. The speedway includes 82,000 seats, 68 suites, and 40 support buildings. An additional 3,100 seats plus a 7,000 sq. ft. concession and restroom building have been added since initial construction. The 1,200-acre site also includes highway access work and extensive site roads and utilities work. Construction of the site included clearing, grubbing and mass excavation consisting of removal and replacement of approximately 11 million cubic yards of soil and two million cubic yards of rock. The construction of the speedway project has had a significant impact on the Village West area. New commercial developments have sprung up around the speedway, including a retail furniture store, an outdoor sporting goods store, a minor league baseball stadium, an MLS sports facility, a movie theater complex, an outdoor retail mall, and hotels.
